The Surface — Dashboard & Management

The platform is visible, and the visibility is honest — every answer says which plane produced it and how fresh it is.

Vision · real substrate

echd speaks in the present tense over a build ladder. Every module, verb, key, and port named on this page is real; the composition into one standing platform is the vision the ladder builds.

The chapter

the build register: docs/echdash/eda.roadmap.md

The platform is visible, and the visibility is honest. echdash — the owned dashboard on :8891 — replaces the hosted SPA with a surface that tells the truth the stock page cannot: live status with degraded states rendered rather than masked, requests with payloads verbatim in code blocks, a catalog that renders while the app is down, logs that mark their gaps instead of splicing them. The raw tab is the proof of the verbatim law: what the daemon said is what the page shows.

Topology is not a drawing; it is a relation held by a system. A Go registry mints branded names once and holds edge stores under the EdgeStore law of E2 — the declared graph (what status.meta promises) beside the observed one (what the traces witnessed), laid out by a hand-rolled layered SVG with no graph dependency. Every response is stamped plane + as_of: the plane ladder answers from the live wire when it can, from the read-only database when the wire is down, from the vault for history, from the ech proxy for the MCP census — and from the last-known cache when everything else is quiet, saying so. The management plane completes the surface: the panel, sessions in view, the census honest about which upstreams stand. Degradation here is a CAP stance — the surface chooses availability and stamps its staleness.

webdash :8891 — every answer stamped plane + as_of the plane ladder A · dashup — ws :9400 (live) S1 · encore.db — read-only, fenced V · the vault — deep history B · ech :8890 — the MCP census internal/topo brd registry · edge stores declared / observed degraded states rendered, never masked the management plane — the panel · sessions in view · the census honest about its upstreams
The stamp — provenance on every answer. plane names which rung produced the response; as_of says how fresh it is. Clocks never silently mix: a vault answer wears plane:"vault", a cached one says so, and the reader always knows which truth they hold.
The planes — one interface per family. The live wire answers first; the read-only database answers beneath the RPC's reach; the vault answers for history; the ech proxy answers for the MCP census; and the last-known cache answers when all else is quiet. Each family degrades down its own ladder — never sideways into another's.
The topology — E2's law, ported. Names become branded ids minted once in a Go registry; relations live in edge stores keyed {subject, object}, both ends gated. The declared graph comes from status.meta; the observed one from witnessed calls — and the diff between them is the dashboard's sharpest instrument: dead wiring and drift, visible.
Honesty — degradation as a CAP stance. The surface chooses availability and stamps its staleness: a stopped app renders as a stopped app, a redialing daemon as a banner, a log gap as a gap marker. Nothing is masked to look healthy — the honest row is the product.
Management — the operator's plane. The panel stands beside the dashboard: tunnel sessions in view, the MCP census naming which upstreams answer, identity and state readable at a glance. Managing the platform is a first-class surface, not a side door.
