KAN › The board · lesson 1 of 3

What the board shows

The board answers the questions a squad keeps asking: what is waiting for acceptance, what can start now, who owes whom an answer, and what the Operator has been asked.

Teaches from go/kanboard/README.md.

The views

  • Waits on you lists every rung the board classes as awaiting acceptance, oldest record first, against the limit on unaccepted rungs: --wip-limit, default 5, from the coach's retrospective of 14 October. It counts the stories awaiting acceptance too.
  • Dependencies shows the prerequisite graph: every story and record a depends_on edge touches, prerequisites on the left, in layers by their longest prerequisite chain.
  • Mail, with --squad, shows each seat's inbox and outbox from KAN's squad scope. An answer, a correction or a supersede is a link on the record it answers, corrects or replaces, not a line of its own.
  • Questions lists the questions waiting on the Operator, each with its options, a recommendation and its confidence, and the Operator's words verbatim once answered.

Its API names the same parts: /api/board for the authored board, /api/live for the bus, the mail and the KAN mesh, and /api/events for server-sent frames of the whole state.

Run it, and reach it

python3 go/kanboard/scripts/service.py install builds the checkout's head in a temporary export, never in the checkout, and replaces the running board only after the build succeeds; status and stop do what they say. The board serves loopback only, so another Mac reaches it through an ssh forward: ssh -L 8650:127.0.0.1:8650 m5.

In the EchoEdu delivery

On 25 October an observer on m5 posted the gate's queue as it stood at 10:09Z: no landing since 885f654c at 09:04Z, and six READY heads waiting (KAN CRS0RWupZEOHPk). Between 10:09Z and 10:23Z the gate announced four landings: 18556f32, a train of three heads, then 56da6702, a5549d6d and 7de78a8b. The board shows the same queue as a count against its limit, without anyone having to post it.

  2. In the Mail view, where does a correction appear?
  3. Why does install build in a temporary export rather than in the checkout?
